Decorative Concrete Contractor Coquitlam

Stamped concrete that mimics marble was used for the flooring of one of our Coquitlam clients. The look matches perfectly with their sleek kitchen.

Concrete is one of the most popular materials used for building and construction around the world. When many people think of concrete, they view it as the everyday grey concrete that is used as industrial material. I think many people would be surprised to see how we can re-shape, colour, and design concrete into something absolutely stunning. Welcome to the world of decorative concrete where our concrete contractors can manipulate the material to your heart’s desire.

Concrete can be mixed in such a way that a final product can look like natural stones, brick, and even beautiful tiles. Decorative concrete is typically created by adding special ingredients to the concrete mix before pouring it or adding a decorative layer on top of the concrete once it’s cured. Not only can we change how the concrete itself looks, there can be functional benefits by beautifying it as well. As an example, we can add some texture to concrete to create a non-slip finish which could be great around the pool or on stairs. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular decorative concretes for you to take a look at below.

Stamped Concrete

Stamped concrete is one of the most popular types of decorative concrete used and for good reason as well. This style, often called imprinted concrete, can replicate many types of materials and design such as brick, stone, slate and even tiles. You have a wide variety of patterns and colour palette to choose from when working with stamped concrete. This makes it a popular choice for driveways, patios, pool decks, and more. The great thing about concrete is the durability and affordability of the material. While being relatively cheaper than natural stone or brick, you are able to mimic the same design while adding the durability of concrete.

From a design standpoint, your options are truly unlimited when it comes to different colours and patterns. Stamped concrete is an excellent way to match the exterior of your home or any landscaping efforts you may have put into your space. As an example, if you home as a brick exterior, a simple brick driveway theme could work perfectly together. Stamped concrete also goes beautifully with other types of decorative concrete such as exposed aggregate.

Stamped concrete was the weapon of choice for our clients backyard. We integrated a small retaining wall along with the concrete stairs to help keep the soil and sediments in place.

Stained Concrete

Staining concrete gives a luxurious feel that just can’t be produced by other colouring mechanisms. Applying something like paint would produce an opaque like effect while staining causes the colors to really infuse with the concrete to create a more translucent effect. With proper technique, you can replicate marble, natural stone, and even stained wood. When staining, there are generally two types of categories, acid stains vs water based stains. Both can be applied to many different types of surfaces and are effective at bringing some life into any dull surfaces you may have. Because these stains penetrate the concrete, they are excellent for both indoor and outdoor decorative use. Stained concrete is great for surfaces such as patios, walkways, kitchen countertops, fireplaces, and walls.

Exposed Aggregate Concrete

This is one of our favorite types of concrete and our clients couldn’t agree more with that. It starts as a plain surface that is stripped away to reveal the beautiful design underneath. Exposed aggregate is great for driveways, sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and walkways. The durability and added slip resistance it has make it an excellent choice for any areas that have foot traffic. The best part of this concrete is the beautiful designs that can be achieved. The most popular designs incorporate natural stones such as granite, quartz, basalts, or limestones.

The exposed aggregate look is great on its own but our contractors like to add some creativity to give you even more of a wow factor. A very beautiful design that is one of our personal favorites is to mix and match it with a stamped concrete design. A driveway composed of exposed aggregate which is then framed by stamped concrete is guaranteed to have your guests asking where you got your driveway done.
